Atlanta Spotlight | Jake Evans

On December 19th, Holland & Knight Attorney Jake Evans was elected to chair the Georgia Government Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission, a quasi-judicial body with statewide jurisdiction over ethics issues involving public officials, lobbyists and state vendors.

Mr. Evans previously served as a member on the commission, after being appointed by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal two years ago. The commission, which consists of five members, is charged with enforcing the Georgia Transparency and Campaign Finance Act, setting campaign finance contribution limits and dispensing penalties for violations.

Mr. Evans, who a rising star in Georgia's government and legal communities, is a member of Holland & Knight's Georgia Government Advocacy and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Teams. He represents individuals and corporate entities—from successful small companies to Fortune 100 corporations—in high-stakes, complex litigation.

Mr. Evans also represents individuals and corporate entities (both nonprofit and for-profit) before government administrative agencies and licensing boards, and assists in responding to state Attorney General and United States attorney investigations.

Mr. Evans is recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers and was recognized by Georgia Trend magazine in its 2018 Legal Elite list. He is a member of the Daily Report's On the Rise class of 2018. James Magazine recently recognized him as one of Georgia's Most Influential Politically-Connected Attorneys. He was also an honoree in the 2018 Atlanta Business Chronicle's 40 Under 40 Class, was an honoree in Outstanding Atlanta's 2018 Class, and is a graduate of the 2018 LEAD Atlanta Class.

Mr. Evans is the current president of the Atlanta Young Republicans, the largest Young Republicans organization in the country. He also serves on the Young Leaders Council of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta.

Mr. Evans earned J.D. and B.A. degrees from the University of Georgia.

Emory University has named Mary Anne Bobinski dean of Emory University School of Law. She will assume the post in August 2019, becoming the first woman to serve in the role since the school’s founding in 1916.

“Mary Anne Bobinski is a nationally recognized legal scholar in health law and one that leads with an eye towards the impact lawyers can have on society,” says Emory President Claire E. Sterk. “Her track record of inclusiveness and ideals around collective impact will enhance our program and deepen our relationships with the legal community and beyond.”

Bobinski is currently a professor at the Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia, Canada, where she also served as dean from 2003-2015. [ ... ]
